So this is exciting! Deadline broke the news this morning that star Oscar Isaac (The Last Jedi) will be playing none other than Solid Snake himself in Sony's upcoming Metal Gear Solid feature from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island)!
Now, of course videogame movies have had a really spotty track record in the past, however the casting of Isaac seems to at least be a step in the right direction. And with the recent box-office – and even nominal critical successes – of Detective Pikachu and Sonic: The Hedgehog, as well as the reportedly more faithful re-adaptations of Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil (with even the more recent international trailer for Monster Hunter turning at least *some* fans around), maybe we're at a turning point with videogame movies as a genre?
Regardless, no start or release date at this time (especially given Covid and Isaacs' busy schedule), but we'll keep you updated!
Meanwhile, here's the official synopsis of the game:
The game was first launched on PlayStation in 1998 and follows Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit.
So what do you guys think? Fans of the Metal Gear Solid games? If so, excited for the film? Either way, sound off below!
