Meow! Taylor Swift’s song “Beautiful Ghosts” from Cats now available

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In case you weren't' aware, there's another major film opening the same weekend audiences bid farewell to the Skywalkers. December 20th will also see the release of director Tom Hooper's musical CATS. The Academy Award winning director's film is of course an adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway musical of the same name. While much ballyhoo has been made about the creepy cat/human visuals in the upcoming film, we can't lose sight of the fact that there's some pretty impressive musical numbers coming our way. Previews have already shown off Jennifer Hudson's pipes with the hit song "Memory" and there's sure to be more.

Another musical magician starring in the upcoming feature is none other than pop superstar Taylor Swift. The singer/actress will play Bombalurina. However, Hooper must have known Swift was trouble when she walked in, because she's serving another key role in CATS. Swift was also tasked with delivering a new song for the musical and in tandem with Andrew Lloyd Webber, she did just that. And now you can hear it too! Early this morning the official CATS Twitter page announced that T-Swizzle's new song "Beautiful Ghosts" was available for your listening pleasure:

What's interesting to note is that Taylor Swift will NOT in fact be singing "Beautiful Ghosts" in the upcoming film. That  task will be reserved for Francesca Hayward's character Victoria, the white feline who takes a central role in CATS. Judi Dench's Old Deuteronomy will also sing a reprisal of the song. Of further note is that the song is not pop in nature but more orchestral, which falls in line with the overall musical mode of the film. Regardless of how you may feel about Taylor Swift personally, there's no denying the woman can sing. To have her as part of the cast AND as a contributor to the music is a real boon.

CATS starring Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Francesca Hayward, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo, and Ray Winstone slinks its way into theaters December 20.
