Melissa McCarthy had me laughing in BRIDESMAIDS a few years ago, but since then comedies IDENTITY THIEF, THE HEAT, and TAMMY have left a lot to be desired from someone often mentioned as the go-to funny lady. She entertains a lot of people though; she can hold her own at the box office and has time for a sitcom on the side too, I don’t do any of that so good for her. There is no shortage of work coming her way as Universal Pictures has set a release date for the upcoming McCarthy-led comedy MICHELLE DARNELL.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Academy Award®-nominated star Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, The Heat, Tammy) headlines MICHELLE DARNELL as a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget.
It's like if Bernie Madoff was charming and (probably) fumbling; I'm sure this will still seem relevant by the time it's released right? The movie is based on an original character created by McCarthy and will be directed by her husband Ben Falcone (TAMMY). The duo wrote the project alongside their Groundlings collaborator, Steve Mallory. What do you think, does it sound interesting?
MICHELLE DARNELL is set to hit theaters April 8th, 2016. Watch Ben Falcone explain how he screwed up his proposal to McCarthy.
