Syfy is teaming with Seven24Films and IDW Entertainment for a thirteen episode adaptation of the comic book WYNONNA EARP, and SAW VI / NURSE 3D actress Melanie Scrofano has landed the title role.
Created by Beau Smith, WYNONNA EARP is a supernatural Western that is set in the modern day and described as "JUSTIFIED meets BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER". The synopsis:
Wynonna Earp, descendent of the famous lawman, follows in Wyatt's shoes, but with one difference: she brings the unnatural to justice! Redneck, trailer trash, drug-running vampires; bounty-hunting biker werewolves; immortal desperadoes; an ancient mummy hitman and the Egyptian Mafia: these are the kinds of perpetrators that covert U.S. Marshal Wynonna Earp hunts down on a regular basis.
Well, I'm in. This sounds like a whole lot of fun to me.
Scrofano is joined in the cast by Tim Rozon as legendary con artist Doc Holliday and Shamier Anderson as Agent Dolls.
WYNONNA EARP has been developed for television by executive producer and showrunner Emily Andras. Production on the series begins in September, with Paolo Barzman directing the pilot. The show is expected to premiere on Syfy in April of 2016. It's going on my DVR list for sure.
