Megan Fox is a big fan of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. So much so, she claims she made her husband watch the original cartoon series when they were dating. That in mind, she already knew a lot about the characters and stories that made them so beloved for countless kids the world over. She also says she loves the direction that director Jonathan Liebesman and producer Michael Bay have taken in this summer's reboot.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fox says that the redesigned Turtles are not the only change to the classic characters but her own role of April O'Neil will not be a sexy, Michael Bay style role.
“She’s more of a leader when she explores her relationship with the turtles instead of just the human companion that gets dragged along on the adventure,” says Fox of her revamped character. “It’s more representative of a modern woman.”
“I’m completely clothed for the entire movie,” says Fox, noting that may disappoint some fans. “There’s no gratuitous skin or sexual anything. Jonathan was really insistent on not wanting her to be sexualized or to take that sort of typical role we’ve seen women take in movies thus far, and that I’ve taken in particular.”
This may seem to fly in the face of what you would expect when casting Megan Fox since she is known for her figure and assets, but the character of April was never the midriff-baring type of character in either the original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES cartoon or the three previous films. At least Liebesman and Bay seem to be getting that part right. As for the other changes, we will have to wait and see when the movie gets released in a few months.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES hits theaters on August 8, 2014.
