Meet the royal family in latest trailer for Marvel’s Inhumans

Another day, another underwhelming trailer for Marvel's Inhumans. Try as I might, I just can't muster up much enthusiasm for the upcoming series, which is a shame as the Inhumans clearly have the potential to be so much more. A whole society of powerful individuals living in a secret city on the moon?! Toss in some royal intrigue and out of this world adventures, and you've got the recipe for something amazing. So why does the series look so dreadfully dull and cheap?

With a limited number of episodes, not to mention shooting on Arri Alexa IMAX 2D digital cameras, you would think that Inhumans would look a little more impressive than it does, but apparently Marvel was looking at getting the series made as quickly and as cheaply as possible. Roel Reiné (DEATH RACE 2), who helmed the first two episodes of Inhumans, told CNET that Marvel liked him for the job "because I was able with my action movies to shoot in a very short time, or with very low budgets, action that looks like a big-budget movie." Reiné added that "the schedule was super-tight, it was TV tight. I had TV schedule time to shoot it with Imax cameras, 20 days to shoot two episodes." Reiné admitted that it was a little "nerve-wracking," but as he comes from the world of low-budget film, those 20 days felt like a luxury. Here's hoping that the series winds up being a little more impressive than it's looking.

Starring Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Ken Leung as Karnak, Ellen Woglom as an undisclosed character, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and Mike Moh as Triton, Marvel's Inhumans "explores the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city. After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where they are greeted with surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them. Now they must find a way to reunite with each other and return to their home before their way of life is destroyed forever." The series will debut on IMAX screens on September 1, 2017, the first live-action television series to do so, before premiering on ABC on September 29, 2017 for a run of eight episodes.
