Meet Luke Evans’ character in The Alienist featurette

Yesterday, we shared a featurette that introduced Dakota Fanning's aspiring detective character Sara Howard from the upcoming TNT event series The Alienist. Now another featurette has been released that focuses on another of the show's lead characters, Luke Evans as reporter John Moore.

In this brief clip, Evans discusses his character and how he gets involved in the show's murder mystery. He also makes the comment that working on the show, which is set at the turn of the 20th century, has made him feel like a time traveler. I imagine that must be a pretty cool way to feel.

A psychological thriller, The Alienist is based on a novel by Caleb Carr and is set

in the Gilded Age of New York City in 1896, a city of vast wealth, extreme poverty and technological innovation. When a series of haunting, gruesome murders of boy prostitutes grips the city, newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt calls upon criminal psychologist (aka alienist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler and newspaper reporter John Moore to conduct the investigation in secret. They are aided by a makeshift crew of singular characters, among them the intrepid Sara Howard, a young secretary on Roosevelt's staff who is determined to become the first female police detective in New York City. Using the emerging disciplines of psychology and early forensic investigation techniques, this band of social outsiders tracks down one of New York City's first serial killers.

Daniel Brühl stars as the titular "alienist", forensic psychologist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler. Brühl, Evans, and Fanning are joined in the cast by Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Matt Lintz, Robert Ray Wisdom, and Q'orianka Kilcher, with Brian Geraghty as Theodore Roosevelt.

The Alienist is executive produced by Cary Fukunaga and directed by Jakob Verbruggen. The series will premiere on TNT's television, mobile, and digital platforms on Monday, January 22nd at 9pm.
