Peacock has released the new trailer for its time-traveling rom-com, Meet Cute. In movie terms, a “meet cute” is normally associated with romantic comedies and refers to the point in the story where our two leads meet each other, usually in a cutesy scenario, which puts them on the path to falling in love with one another. The new Peacock original starring Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco and former SNL member Pete Davidson adds a new twist on the whole concept.

Meet Cute seemingly starts as a normal romantic comedy where Sheila, played by Cuoco, approaches a stranger named Gary, played by Davidson, at a bar and proceeds to flirt with him. The two are looking to have a great night out together when it is revealed Sheila is actually from the future and has time-traveled to Gary’s past to steer his personality towards being the perfect man for her and reliving that fateful night multiple times.

The plot is like a reverse of a segment in Harold Ramis’ Groundhog Day where Bill Murray’s character transformed himself into the perfect man for Andie MacDowell’s character through trial and error when reliving a night with her. This film is written by Noga Pneuli, who is also executive producing and is directed by Alex Lehmann, known for Paddleton and Blue Jay

Lehmann jokes with Variety, “If I had a time machine right now, I’d be torn. Do I skip ahead to our release date, or do I go back and relive the joy it was making this film? Lucky for me, it’s a decision I don’t get to make. I’m excited for audiences to get swept away on this wild romantic ride exclusively on Peacock.”

Meet Cute is set to premiere as an exclusive original on the streaming service Peacock on September 21.
