Even if you aren't very familiar with Greek mythology, you're probably familiar with Medusa, the monstrous woman who had snakes for hair and can turn people into stone with just a look. The Clash of the Titans movies have done a good job of keeping her alive in pop culture. Now we're getting a Medusa-themed horror movie… but I have to say, I did not expect the approach this movie takes to the subject.
Medusa is coming to DVD on July 6th (you can pre-order a copy of it HERE), and it tells the story of
a young woman, who is bitten by a lethal snake and starts experiencing unusual changes to her senses and appearance. As she sheds her old skin, she will stop at nothing to get what she wants, as she slowly morphs into a deadly weapon.
Directed by Matthew B.C. from a script he wrote with Scott Jeffrey, who was also the producer, the film stars Megan Purvis (The Young Cannibals), Sarah T. Cohen (HellKat), Nicola Wright (The Gardener), and Nicole Nabi (Cannibal Troll).
So we're not getting a period piece about the ancient Medusa in her heyday, or a movie about Medusa being unleashed on people in modern day. We're getting a movie about a young woman transforming into Medusa after being bitten by a snake, like an evil and horrific twist on Spider-Man. I definitely did not see that coming.
