Giving just a week’s notice, Scream Factory has revealed that they are bringing the 1977 slasher Meatcleaver Massacre, featuring genre icon Christopher Lee, to Blu-ray on March 29th! This is a ShoutFactory.com exclusive release that will be limited to just 1500 copies, so if you want to own Meatcleaver Massacre on Blu-ray you should pre-order this right away. Pre-orders can be made at THIS LINK.
Meatcleaver Massacre has the following synopsis:
Horror legend Christopher Lee (The Wicker Man, the Lord of the Rings trilogy) stars in this pulse-pounding film where revenge is best served in cold blood. A professor of the occult experiences a shocking tragedy when the “destroyers” – a group of murderous students who fail to believe his tales of the dark forces – brutally attack him and his family and leave them to die. Now in a deep coma and the only survivor of the assault, he calls upon those demonic forces beyond the world of the living to grant him vengeance on those who took everything from him.
The film comes to Blu-ray with the following bonus features:
Includes Two Cuts Of The Film:
The Original Cut — THE HOLLYWOOD MEATCLEAVER MASSACRE (77 Minutes)
The Theatrical Cut — Featuring Intro/Outro With Horror Film Star Christopher Lee (85 Minutes)
Theatrical Trailer
If you’re wondering why there’s a Lee-less cut of this movie, that’s because Lee’s scenes were not part of the original production. Lee’s scenes were filmed for an entirely different movie, and the producers of Meatcleaver Massacre bought that footage so they could slap it onto their movie. When Lee found out there was something called Meatcleaver Massacre being promoted as “starring Christopher Lee” he (according to IMDb) “initiated legal action against this movie’s producers, but withdrew it when he was advised that it would be a long, drawn-out and expensive procedure.”
For me, the surprise announcement that Scream Factory is releasing Meatcleaver Massacre also brings the realization that I have somehow never seen Meatcleaver Massacre, even though I’ve been aware of the title for decades.
