Last year, filmmaker McG's production company Wonderland Sound and Vision acquired a spec script by INSURGENT / JANE GOT A GUN screenwriter Brian Duffield titled THE BABYSITTER. Described as a "coming-of-age horror story", the script
follows a twelve-year old boy and his babysitter on a night when things take an unexpected turn for the worst.
Babysitter heroines are a tried and true trope for a horror genre, so it's a promising set-up, the only question is… what sort of horror will this babysitter and the child in her charge be dealing with? That's something that's being kept under wraps, and I'm looking forward to finding out the answer.
The project has now been set up at New Line Cinema, with McG on board to direct the film and produce with Mary Viola. Duffield will executive produce, as will Wonderland's Steven Bello, James McGough, and co-financier Zach Schiller of Boies/Schiller Film Group. Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, and Dave Neustadter are overseeing THE BABYSITTER for New Line.
McG's previous directing credits include the 2000 version of CHARLIE'S ANGELS and its sequel, WE ARE MARSHALL, TERMINATOR SALVATION, THIS MEANS WAR, and 3 DAYS TO KILL.
