Maya Hawke joins Stranger Things, Priah Ferguson promoted

Last week, we heard a detailed rumor about three adult characters who might be added to the third season of the Netflix series Stranger Things, which is set to go into production soon. The existence of those characters still hasn't been confirmed or denied, but it has been announced that a new teenage character is being added to the show.

Maya Hawke, the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, has signed on to play a new character named Robin,

an alternative girl who is equal parts sharp and playful. Bored with her mundane day job, she just wants a little excitement in her life — and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins.

It has also been announced that Priah Ferguson (pictured above), who appeared in the show's second season as Erica, the thoroughly unimpressed younger sister of the Lucas character, has been promoted to recurring status in the new season. Given more to do, Erica will be returning with "an army of friends".

No longer content with sitting on the sidelines, Erica finds herself on a wild mission to save Hawkins from a dangerous and unexpected new threat.

Ferguson's promotion is no surprise, as Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers made it very clear that they had fun bringing the Erica character onto the show and really enjoyed Ferguson's performance.

Hawke joins Ferguson and her fellow returning cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Cara Buono, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Dacre Montgomery, and Sadie Sink in an eight episode season that begins filming next month.
