A couple weeks ago, it was just a rumor. Now it has been confirmed: Kevin Bacon (Tremors) and singer Halsey are joining Mia Goth in MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it HERE) and X (watch that one at THIS LINK). The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet), singer Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Bobby Cannavale (Netflix’s The Watcher), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) have also signed on to star in the film.
MaXXXine is being written and directed by West. Goth will be reprising the role of X survivor Maxine Minx, a burlesque performer and adult film actress with the goal of being a star. The film will follow Maxine, after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Esposito will be playing an agent for adult film and Z-list movie actors, Debicki’s character is a film director, Monaghan and Canavale are playing LAPD detectives, and Bacon is playing a private detective.
MaXXXine is being produced by A24, Ti West, Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. Goth serves as executive producer. Filming is set to begin in Los Angeles this month. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting reported that West had this to say about MaXXXine: “What I can tell you is that we’re going to catch up with Maxine. And we’re going to find out what she’s up to. The way that X is a movie that is informed by and affected by independent exploitation auteur Americana and 1970s cinema, and Pearl is perhaps affected by the Golden Age of Hollywood and the glitz and glamor of cinema, MaXXXine will be more about within the industry itself and the boom of VHS.” According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, the movie “will deal with the dangerous world of underground filmmaking.”
West has assembled quite an impressive cast for MaXXXine, and I look forward to seeing what sort of horrible things are going to happen to the characters. The Pearl character may not be around anymore, but there’s sure to be some bloodshed of some sort.

Helena Bonham Carter had also been rumored for a role in the film, but there was no mention of her in The Hollywood Reporter’s cast announcement.
