Max Landis teases Creature from the Black Lagoon remake

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Last year we learned that Universal had all but put the kibosh on their planned Dark Universe series of shared classic monster movies following the disappointment that was Tom Cruise's THE MUMMY. But today we have a rumor that they may be getting back on track with a remake of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.

Max Landis (BRIGHT) it appears is moving full speed ahead on the already-known remake AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and now he is hinting that he has this new secret project in the works. The story behind the reveal is pretty lengthy but you can read all about it HERE.

Basically, someone called out Landis over on Reddit for working on CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and Landis all but confirmed it. And speaking of that, this means no studio has confirmed his involvement so this is all still merely a possibility at this point.

Until then we can always sit back and await his remake of his father John Landis' werewolf classic. Fingers crossed that film is not an abomination. We'll see one of these days, I guess.

The original 1954 film followed this rundown:

Remnants of a mysterious animal have come to light in a remote jungle, and a group of scientists intends to determine if the find is an anomaly or evidence of an undiscovered beast. To accomplish their goal, the scientists (Antonio Moreno, Richard Carlson, Richard Denning, Whit Bissell) must brave the most perilous pieces of land South America has to offer. But the terrain is nothing compared to the danger posed by an otherworldly being that endangers their work and their lives.

CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON was produced by William Alland, directed by Jack Arnold, and starred Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno and Whit Bissell. The Creature was played by Ben Chapman on land and by Ricou Browning underwater.
