Matthew Vaughn wants a Kingsman trilogy and is open to spin-offs

We're just days away from the release of KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE, and although reviews for the sequel haven't been quite as kind as they were the first time around, it still seems as though we're in for a fun ride. Assuming THE GOLDEN CIRCLE proves to be just as much of a success as THE SECRET SERVICE, it's probably safe to say that the soon-to-be-released sequel will not be the last we see of Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and the Kingsman. In fact, KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE director Matthew Vaughn told CinemaBlend that although the story he has in mind will come to a close with KINGSMAN 3, he's absolutely open to spin-off movies to expand the universe even further.

I think there's a story in my head which will be finished by the end of the next one. And then after that then, of course, there could be Statesman movies, there could be spinoff character films. The universe could continue with new agents. Or, you know, Colin (Firth) could become Arthur (…) or new characters could come in. Or new kids get trained. There's so many options, but I also think it's better not to be too greedy.

I'm not sure what twists and turns THE GOLDEN CIRCLE will have in store for us, so who knows what the state of its world will be leading into the third film, but I'd certainly welcome a handful of KINGSMAN spin-offs, however, as Matthew Vaughn says, it's probably best not to get too greedy. Speaking of greedy, Vaughn told Collider that after Twentieth Century Fox viewed his first cut of the film (which clocked in at 3 hours and 40 minutes), they suggested splitting it up into two parts rather than cut it down, but thankfully Vaughn shot that idea down right away.

That was the part about being a sequel as well, I lost my discipline where you’re with a bunch of friends and you go, ‘Oh that’s a good idea’, and it was a good idea, but everything just got longer and longer and longer. There was a moment where the studio said, ‘Hey should we do The Golden Circle Part 1 and Part 2?’ and I went "Absolutely no way we’re doing that, this is The Golden Circle."

Although Matthew Vaughn ruled out a two-part movie, he's hasn't yet ruled out putting together a second cut of the film. "Some of the stuff we cut out was so good, as well, that I was very sad to see it cut," Vaughn said. "But I think it could be pretty cool to do a Kingsman: The Golden Circle – Version 2, it might be fun. If people see this I’ve got a real—and also that will spark some real debate about what I cut out and why, and I’m sure some people will say I was an idiot for doing it."
