Just when you thought Matthew McConaughey had already gone to the ends of the world playing meme-worthy characters, he goes and takes the role of Moondog – a stoner, poet and all-around absurd individual in the new movie from Harmony Korine (SPRING BREAKERS), THE BEACH BUM. The new trailer is here, and though there’s not a ton of new detail from the first teaser we saw, all you need to see is a high-life-living McConaughey against a neon-drenching beach, dressed in whatever he found in other people's closets – and there’s plenty of that.

The movie looks absolutely bizarre and, like SPRING BREAKERS, seems like an unmissable movie. Embracing a similar style and tone as his last movie, Korine seems to be carving out a niche for himself by focusing on eccentric characters in a sun-soaked, hard-partying beach setting. McConaughey looks otherworldly in the movie, taking what appears to be an impression of himself and blowing it up to atmospheric proportions. Alongside McConaughey is a bananas cast which includes Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Martin Lawrence, Jonah Hill and, of all people, Jimmy Buffett. I mean, Jimmy Buffett’s name is on the poster! What is this movie?
The movie looks strange and intoxicating in every way, so naturally, I can’t wait to see it. If you are having trouble getting on board, may I direct you to the new poster that dropped yesterday, which literally looks like an acid hallucination come to life.
