Matthew Holness’ Possum starring Sean Harris hits DVD this February

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

I don't know if you've ever seen the short-lived BBC horror-comedy Garth Marenghi's Darkplace but it's hilarious and I suggest giving it a watch if you have the chance. It's basically a series parodying horror authors such as Stephen King and Clive Barker. It's a hoot. See the pic above. And since peeping that series back in the day, I've kept track of all of those involved in the series, including the show's star Matthew Holness.

Well, last year, Holness wrote and directed a new feature film – and it's horror! The film is called POSSUM (pre-order HERE) and it stars Sean Harris, a guy you might recognize for the last two MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies or as the mohawk guy from Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS.  Anyhow, with those two talents in tow, POSSUM made my must-see list and today we have word that the movie will be hitting DVD via Dark Sky Films this February.

The insane plot goes a little something like this:

A man trying to escape his past finds his past continually chasing him down in POSSUM, a chilling new horror film featuring a "quiet storm" (Olly Richards, Time Out New York) of a lead performance by Mission: Impossible's Sean Harris.  Philip (Sean Harris, Mission: Impossible -Fallout & Rogue Nation, Deliver Us From Evil), a disgraced children's puppeteer, returns to his dilapidated childhood home and lecherous stepfather, Maurice (Alun Armstrong, Braveheart). Philip is intent on destroying "Possum," a hideously malformed spider-puppet he carries with him in a brown leather case. Unfortunately, and horrifically, Possum refuses to be abandoned. Philip's mind is flooded with painful half-memories and nightmarish visions, and when he finds himself embroiled in a local investigation surrounding a missing boy, he grows progressively unsure of what's real and what's not. All the while Possum seems to mock his suffering at every turn.

Holness directed the film from a screenplay he wrote based on his short story of the same name. Wayne Marc Godfrey, James Harris, Robert Jones, and Mark Lane produced. Harris' co-stars include Alun Armstrong and the movie features music by The Radiophonic Workshop. POSSUM arrives on DVD from Dark Sky Films on February 12, 2019.
