John Constantine was played in NBC's Constantine series by Matt Ryan who also reprised the role on DC's Legends of Tomorrow. And today we have word via Ryan himself that he would love the chance to reprise the character for James Wan and Gary Dauberman's upcoming SWAMP THING series over on DC Universe. Ryan told the audience during a panel at Wizard World Cleveland:
John Constantine was born in Swamp Thing. Eventually, he has to be on Swamp Thing, and I just hope it’s me.
I'm not overly familiar with Ryan's portrayal of John Constantine so I can't say too much on that front. But I am a fan of Swamp Thing and plan to tune into this new series when it air. So if Ryan wants to join the party as the original Hellblazer, who am I to tell the man to go home? Bring it on, Matt Ryan!
Len Wiseman is directing the new series based on SWAMP THING from a script by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. The cast includes Andy Bean as biologist Alec Holland, Crystal Reed as CDC Doctor Abby Arcane, and with Derek Mears as Swamp Thing himself. Wes Craven's original SWAMP THING actress Adrienne Barbeau might be joining the series.
Here's the rundown for the new series:
Abby Arcane investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Andy Bean and Crystal Reed star in this new series along with Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Will Patton, Henderson Wade, Ian Ziering, and Kevin Durand, with Derek Mears as Swamp Thing himself. James Wan's company Atomic Monster is producing Swamp Thing in association with Warner Bros. Television. Wan, Wiseman, Verheiden, and Dauberman also serve as executive producers on the series with Michael Clear. Rob Hackett is co-producer. Swamp Thing will be released through the DC Universe streaming service on May 31st.
