The Batman production has wrapped; on track for 2022 release

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

On January 27, 2020, director Matt Reeves took to his social media accounts to share a picture of a clapperboard on the first day of filming The Batman. At that time, he couldn't have known that it would take more than a year for him to reach the last day of production. But after a lengthy pandemic shutdown, followed by the speed bump of star Robert Pattinson testing positive for COVID-19 when production resumed, The Batman has finally wrapped – and Reeves marked the occasion by sharing a picture of a clapperboard on the last day of filming.

Cast member Jeffrey Wright, who plays Gotham City PD's James Gordon in the film, also celebrated the end of filming on his social media.

Scripted by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman has the following synopsis:

Set during his second year of crime-fighting, Batman takes on The Riddler, Catwoman, and The Penguin in this dark new take on The Dark Knight.

Pattinson plays the title character. He and Wright are joined in the cast by Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

The Batman is scheduled to be released on March 4, 2022.
