Warner Bros. is hoping to get production back up on THE MATRIX 4 in Berlin, Germany in early July but it requires some extensions for its primary cast.
The cast, including Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, had to sign eight-week extensions to keep them on hold until July 6 in news confirmed via "Deadline." Production began back in February on the fourth MATRIX installment and they were filming in Berlin before production stopped out of safety due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Different countries are on the way to returning to feature film production in the near future. New Zealand and Poland are very close to being able to house productions while Australia and Germany are looking to get back in the game soon as well. Countries outside of the United States are a bit ahead of the curve in terms of when productions can resume shooting. For instance, there is no set date or current timeframe for shooting to start up in the States but teams have been assembled to get that process rolling.
The good news is that we're even in a place that we can look to Hollywood getting back to work sooner rather than later. There has been this holding pattern in the industry and a sense of uncertainty about how things can get started up again. The goal is to look at what productions get up and running first because they'll be the template of what kind of precautions will need to be in place to assure a safe environment on set.
THE MATRIX 4, which also stars Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, Toby Onwumere, Brian J. Smith, Eréndira Ibarra & Andrew Caldwell, is tentatively scheduled for release on May 21, 2021. Do YOU think other productions will be getting back to work soon?
