It has been three and a half years since we first heard that directors Mick Garris, Joe Dante, David Slade, Ryuhei Kitamura, and Alejandro Brugues were teaming up for an anthology film titled NIGHTMARE CINEMA, with each director taking the helm of one of the film's five segments. As a fan of these directors and of the Masters of Horror anthology series Garris created for Showtime back in the day, I've been anxiously looking forward to seeing this movie ever since it was first announced… And now the wait is almost over.
Good Deed Entertainment will be releasing NIGHTMARE CINEMA in theatres and on VOD on June 21st.
Written by Garris, Brugués, Slade, Richard Christian Matheson, Sandra Becerril, and Lawrence C. Connolly, NIGHTMARE CINEMA has the following synopsis:
In this twisted horror anthology, five strangers are drawn to an abandoned theater and forced to watch their deepest and darkest fears play out before them. Lurking in the shadows is the Projectionist, who preys upon their souls with his collection of disturbing films. As each reel spins its sinister tale, the characters find frightening parallels to their own lives.
Garris produced the film with Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, and Joe Russo.
Mickey Rourke hosts the anthology as a character called The Projectionist, and he's joined in the cast by Annabeth Gish, Elizabeth Reaser, Maurice Bernard, Richard Chamberlain, Sarah Elizabeth Withers, and Zarah Mahler.
The stories in the film are titled The Thing in the Woods, Mirari, Mashit, This Way to Egress, and Dead.
