Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kate, Netflix

In the not too distant future, everyone will get their own assassin thriller on Netflix. Variety reports that Mary Elizabeth Winstead is slated to take the lead in KATE, a Netflix assassin thriller to be directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR) and scripted by Umair Aleem (EXTRACTION).

KATE will revolve around a female assassin who has been given less than 24 hours to live after being poisoned. This sounds familiar. Kate sets off on a manhunt through the streets of Tokyo in order to take vengeance on her murderer before she dies. Again, sounds familiar, but I'm a sucker for Mary Elizabeth Winstead so I'll give it a pass. Production on KATE is expected to kick off later this year.

This isn't the only assassin-related movie in Mary Elizabeth Winstead's future as she's also starring in Ang Lee's GEMINI MAN. The upcoming film stars Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move. Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Danny, an operative who works for the same company as Henry and is assigned to surveil him, but soon teams up with him instead. In addition to GEMINI MAN, Winstead will also star in BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN) as Helena Bertinelli, aka the Huntress. GEMINI MAN will hit theaters on October 11, 2019, followed by BIRDS OF PREY on February 7, 2020.
