When Marvel stormed the Hall H theater at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the studio announced that a plethora of new heroes were destined to make their debut as a part of company's Phase 4 plans. While some projects, such as THE ETERNALS and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, were considered to be "no-brainers" among the bunch, Marvel still shocked audiences with official plans for films like SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS, DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS and THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER, featuring Natalie Portman's return to the MCU as Jane Foster / Mighty Thor. In addition to the aforementioned films, Marvel also confirmed a number of television series that are set to launch on Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney+. You'd think that this would be enough to satiate even the most ravenous of Marvel fans, but the truth of the matter is that some can never get enough of what the studio does best, and they're more than eager to welcome new heroes into the fold.
In the interest of looking beyond Marvel's Phase 4 plans, a recent report hailing from MCU Cosmic says that the cosmic hero Nova is planning a Phase 5 debut. As the article suggests, Nova would arrive on the MCU scene alongside Mahershala Ali's BLADE, The Fantastic Four, and mutants of the X-Men variety. MCU Cosmic also states that, according to their very reliable sources, that a Nova film has been in active development for sometime. Lending credence to the claim is Marvel's Kevin Feige, who back in May told Comicbook.com that the character had "immediate potential" to enter the studio's pantheon of superheroes.
For the moment, the only Phase 5 Marvel film to receive an official release date is Ryan Coogler's BLACK PANTHER II on May 6, 2022. However, the studio has reserved space for MCU feature releases in the months of February and July of 2022 as well. It could be that Nova will occupy one of those slots, with a sequel to CAPTAIN MARVEL laying claim to the other reserved space. Only time will tell if MCU Cosmic's report is indeed accurate, so I suppose that we should all keep our fingers crossed for good things yet to come.
