Well now, it looks like those eagerly anticipating the debut of director Edgar Wright's ANT-MAN have just shortened their wait as Disney has shifted the release date for the Marvel Phase 3 film. Originally set to debut on November 6, 2015, the film will now crawl onto screens with a late summer release of July 31, 2015. So, what does this mean for the rest of the Phase 3 films? Currently, Marvel has held off on announcing any titles with no intention of releaseing that information until 2014. However, a four month shift could potentially mean that they're looking to fit in another pic.
The Phase 3 slate kicks off with ANT-MAN with only the release dates for the follow-ons confirmed: May 6, 2-16, July 8, 2016, and May 5, 2017. Now, I'd put all my chips on the last date being THE AVENGERS 3, but it's anyone's guess as to what the other two entries are (with speculation being that it could be DOCTOR STRANGE and BLACK PANTHER). However, the gap in time between ANT-MAN and that mystery project in May of 2016 leaves almost a full year between projects (which was about the same between THE AVENGERS and IRON MAN 3). Could Marvel be about to add another pic in the mix, perhaps one with a leading lady?
It's anyone's guess at this point (will, minus those in the brain trust that KNOW). Either way, a scheduling move for Phase 3 could mean big things, especially with all the chatter leading up to it, including actor Vin Diesel's tease and even Katee Sackhoff's "talk" with the studio.
Marvel's next entry to hit the big screens is Phase 2's THOR: THE DARK WORLD, which brings the thunder on November 8, 2013.
