Marvel sets Guardians of the Galaxy and Pixar scribes to pen Captain Marvel

As the search continues for a star and director to helm CAPTAIN MARVEL, the studio has selected a pair of writers to shepherd the female superhero film to the big screen. Looks like the rumors have panned out with the formal announcement that Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve will script the Carol Danvers origin story.

Perlman is best known for co-writing GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and the upcoming sequel alongside James Gunn. She has also been linked with a solo film for Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow but that has yet to be formally announced. LeFauve wrote Pixar’s upcoming INSIDE OUT which has already garnered buzz for it’s originality and return to form for the animation studio.

Both women co-wrote those respective films with others so joining them together to script CAPTAIN MARVEL should benefit everyone in the end. While I don’t think it is necessary to make the writer and director of a female-centric film also female, it definitely helps to have someone familiar with the talent involved. Marvel has a lot riding on CAPTAIN MARVEL to be a hit since it will set the precedent for female-led superhero movies, but I think it will really rest on the star and director to bring this all together.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is set to hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
