Marvel’s mysterious 2014 movie is revealed and it is not Black Panther

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Despite our theorizing about a Black Panther movie yesterday, it looks like Latino Review has discovered what Marvel’s unknown 2014 film shall be.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

That’s right, Schmoes. In 2014 we will be getting another superhero team movie, albeit one with lesser known heroes. The Guardians comic originally appeared in 1969 and tied in directly with both Thor and The Avengers. The upcoming film will deal with the rebooted 2008 version of The Guardians whose members are Bug, Cosmo, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Jack Flag, Moondragon, Gamora, Mantis, and Major Victory.

Confused? Unless you are a hardcore comics fan, you likely are unfamiliar with these guys. The one thing you need to know is that the 2010-2011 storyline for The Guardians was called “The Thanos Imperative” and dealt with the super-team watching over alien villain Thanos. When all hell breaks loose, they must work with Captain Marvel’s alternate to destroy the bad guy.

More confused? The Guardians and The Avengers exist in two different comic realities. Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe exists in yet another reality, there is no reason why the movie version cannot have these heroes exist along side our better known super squad. The fact that Thanos is clearly hinted at in THE AVENGERS should have clued us all in that The Guardians were coming.

The question remains as to whether GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will cross over with THOR 2, CAPTAIN AMERICA 2, or IRON MAN 3. Needless to say, this is going to be a very interesting project for Marvel.

Expect more news and a formal announcement from Marvel regarding the project as Comic Con 2012 quickly approaches.
