Fans petition Marvel to create Black Panther TV series set in Wakanda

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

BLACK PANTHER has proven to be a critical and commercial success, even beyond what Marvel themselves were expecting, so it's only natural that audiences are hungry for more of T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and the wondrous nation of Wakanda. Although we'll soon be returning to Wakanda in the upcoming AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, some Marvel fans believe that the mysteries of Wakanda would best be explored in a TV series, and Eric Hamiliton even created a petition to show Marvel and Netflix just how much they want it.

Citing Netflix's track record when it comes to creating interesting Marvel TV series, including Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and more, Hamiliton believes that the back-story of Wakanda would be a perfect fit for a new Marvel/Netflix show.

Telling the back story of Wakanda would be a game changer. How did Wakanda become the most technologically advanced country on Earth? From the technology to the artistry coupled with the rich African traditions, the fans demand more. The Black Panther fanbase would love to see a Wakanda Series on Netflix. This series would expand the depth of the Marvel universe and we feel Marvel/Disney would enjoy creating and adapting these stories as much as we would love watching them.

At the moment, the petition has well over 4000 signatures, and although I can't imagine that it will actually spark a Wakanda TV series, it does speak to the passion that many fans are feeling toward BLACK PANTHER. Should such a series actually materialize, it's unlikely that it would land at Netflix as Disney is prepping their own streaming-service which will include new live-action Marvel shows. A series set in Wakanda would also likely be quite costly, but it would be spectacular.

What do you folks think? Would the history of Wakanda be a good fit for a new Marvel TV series?

The official synopsis for BLACK PANTHER:

After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.

BLACK PANTHER is now playing in theaters, so be sure to check out reviews from our own Eric Walkuski and Chris Bumbray as well as letting us know what you thought of the film!
