Marvel conjures Jade Bartlett to pen Doctor Strange sequel

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

With the release of SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME we are now officially living in a post-END GAME world. Marvel's Phase 4 is barreling ahead faster than Tony Stark produces new Iron Man suits, with next May's BLACK WIDOW film wrapping earlier this month and production on THE ETERNALS currently underway. And now we've got even more Marvel Phase 4 news, this time regarding the Sorcerer Supreme.

In an exclusive report via Collider, Marvel has tapped up-and-coming screenwriter Jade Bartlett to pen DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS. Bartlett's made quite the splash in recent years. Her 2016 script MILLER'S GIRL was voted one of the top Black List unproduced screenplays of 2016. Additionally, Bartlett was hired to write an adaptation of Chloe Esposito's debut novel "Mad, Bad, And Dangerous To Know" with Michael Del Luca set to produce. Bartlett's next writing credit will be for the upcoming January film THE TURNING starring Mackenzie Davis and Finn Wolfhard.

Kevin Feige, who was recently promoted to Marvel Chief Creative Officer, will produce the sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch will be reprising his role as the Master of the Mystic Arts with Benedict Wong also returning and Elizabeth Olsen joining the cast as Scarlet Witch. Scott Derrickson will also helm the ship as director.

While I wasn't the biggest fan of 2016's DOCTOR STRANGE (pretty ho-hum origin story in my opinion) Cumberbatch was excellent in the lead role and the addition of Bartlett sounds promising.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS magics its way into theaters May 7, 2021.
