There aren't that many details at this point, but according to Billboard's report on the Johnny Ramone tribute at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Sunday, Martin Scorsese is planning on directing a movie about the legendary punk rock band The Ramones. The estate for the band has big plans for 40th anniversary of the release of The Ramones' debut album in 2016, and apparently one of those projects is a biopic involving Scorsese.
While this makes perfect sense since Martin Scorsese has previously directed concert films for The Rolling Stones and The Band (SHINE A LIGHT and THE LAST WALTZ, respectively) as well as the Bob Dylan documentary NO DIRECTION HOME, I do wonder if he's going too busy with other projects to direct The Ramones biopic, if the band's estate is planning on releasing it in 2016. He started filming SILENCE (which will be released next year) last month, is attached to direct an untitled 70's rock and roll project for HBO, and will also direct/produce a new TV series for the network based on his SHUTTER ISLAND called Ashecliffe.
Martin Scorsese might have a lot on his plate right now, but I think he'd do an awesome job with a Ramones biopic, and I really hope he does end up directing it. Who do you think should play the members of the band in the planned film?
