During quarantine, while many of us have been relegated to binge-watching TV, playing video games, or braving the art of home renovation, acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese continues to make movies. Way to make us all look like schlubs, Martin! What's next? Are you going to discover the cure for coronavirus in Leonardo DiCaprio's blood as well? Heh. I'm just kidding, I'm glad to hear that Scorsese is still cracking away, and that his latest project, a new short film, has arrived courtesy of BBC’s Lockdown Culture with Mary Beard.
The short, which the director describes as a "very personal" project that explores social distancing, shelter-at-home, and self-isolation, is now available to watch in three parts thanks to a series of tweets that you'll find posted below.

For the time being, we've no idea when the short will officially make its U.S. premiere. That said, the power of the internet is a hell of a thing, and thanks to its seemingly limitless capabilities, you can watch Scorsese's latest right now.
For the short, Scorsese calls on Alfred Hitchcock's THE WRONG MAN as well as director Robert Siodmak's 1946 classic THE KILLERS to mirror the overwhelming sense of lonliness that comes with the effects of COVID-19. For many, quarantine began as something of an unsettling staycation. Though as the weeks have ticked by, with a varying degree of advancement having been made toward flattening the outbreak curve, those same people have experienced a Groundhog Day-style wake up call that's consistently pecking away at their sanity and sense of self. As the footage plays on, Scorsese then waxes rhapsodic about the passage of time, and how during quarantine the flow of it becomes staggered and unwieldy. To tell you the truth, I didn't even know what day it was until my wife informed me over a cup of coffee earlier this morning. Happy Friday, I suppose.
Lastly, Scorsese admits that he has no idea of when his next film, a Western titled KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, will move into production. While this is an upsetting reality for certain, I feel as if we can all agree that Scorsese's safety, as well as that of his cast and crew, is important enough that we'll all wait patiently for the film's release.
