Bad boys! Whatcha want, whatcha want? What we want is confirmation of BAD BOYS sequel, man! Only jive turkeys bait audiences waiting for a proper follow-up to director Michael Bay's 2003 action crim comedy, and it's getting real close to Thanksgiving, you dig?
Recently, BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE and BLACK NIGHT actor Martin Lawrence posted a photo to his personal Instagram account that comes complete with a glorious caption that reads: "It's official. Bad Boys for Life #teammartymar #badboysforlife @willsmith #weback"
After reuniting in sunny California, the dynamic duo of Martin Lawrence and Will Smith (INDEPENDENCE DAY, MEN IN BLACK) met to talk about what lies on the horizon for Miami detectives Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence). In what we know so far, Lawrence has been 100% down for getting the team back together again, while Smith has been doing the "negotiations dance" with the studio. After being "in the works" for several years, the project was given new life thanks to a recent draft of the script penned by THE WEDDING RINGER scribe Chris Bremner. While no official announcements have been made, rumor suggests that Sony is hoping to have Lowrey and Burnett back in the saddle for a January 2020 Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend release.
Poised to direct the sequel are Adil El Arbi (PASTER, BLACK) and Bilall Fallah (BROEDERS, IMAGE), who Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch thinks are the perfect pair to bring a "next level" BAD BOYS film to theaters.
Meanwhile, a BAD BOYS spin-off series titled L.A.'s FINEST is on the way featuring Gabrielle Union's Sydney Barnett character and Jessica Alba as Nancy McKenna. According to the show's official synopsis, the show will focus on the free-spirited Syd, who has now moved from Miami to Los Angles for a fresh start and a new job as an LAPD detective. On the job, she is partnered with Nancy McKenna (Alba), a working mother who's envious of Syd's no-strings-attached lifestyle. The two women are opposites, but both are at the top of their fields.
Producing L.A.'s FINEST are Jerry Bruckheimer and Doug Belgrad, who helped create the first two BAD BOYS installments.
