BBC's SHERLOCK will return for at least two more seasons, but we have no idea when production could start on the next season, or when it might air. Stars Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch have very busy schedules, and co-creator Steven Moffat is also the showrunner for another BBC series you may have heard of called DOCTOR WHO.
But while speaking with Cultbox, Martin Freeman said there has been talks of a special one-off episode of SHERLOCK, and he's very excited for the idea for the potential episode.
Mark Gatiss may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea, and as I was listening to it I thought ‘we’ve just got to do this’. And I don’t know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately. It’s a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea. But I really don’t know when we are going to get to do it.
Freeman also says the plan was to film the fourth season this fall, "but apparently that’s fallen away."
I love SHERLOCK, and a one-off episode is a fantastic idea in my opinion. With the long wait between seasons, the special episode would be a great fix for hardcore SHERLOCK fans who just can't get enough of the high-functioning sociopath. What do you think the plans are for the possible one-off?
Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will return for Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF FIVE ARMIES, and the final HOBBIT flick will be in theaters on December 17th, 2014.
