In zombie movies of the past, you don’t have all that long after being bitten before you start to turn rotten and crave human flesh. In the new movie CARGO starring Martin Freeman, you have a crisp 48 hours, which gives you enough time to get your affairs in order before you start devouring human livers. In the new trailer for the movie, we find Freeman’s Andy trying to get his daughter to safety before he turns all nasty and, you know, bitey.
Here is a plot synopsis:
In a desperate bid to outrun a violent pandemic, Andy and Kay have holed up on a houseboat with their one-year-old daughter, Rosie. Their protected river existence is shattered by a violent attack, which sees Kay tragically die and Andy infected. Left with only 48 hours before he transforms into one of the creatures they have fought so long to evade, Andy sets out on a precarious journey to find a new guardian for his child.
The movie looks like an interesting take on the zombie formula, working as more of a dramatic horror movie than an all-out gore fest. Freeman is always reliable, as well, and he has the stage mostly to himself here. The footage looks a little on the cheap side, but for horror movies that can sometimes work in their favor. A solid-looking entry for horror enthusiasts and Martin Freeman completionists, if I may say.
CARGO hits theaters May 18.
