Another day, another movie gets moved off its release date. MARRY ME, starring Jennifer Lopez & Owen Wilson, is moving off of its February 12, 2021 slot. The culprit is once again the global pandemic which has made many films do the release date shuffle.
MARRY ME will now open on May 14, 2021. The film is taking the slot previously held by Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s SPIRIT UNTAMED, which has been moved to June 4, 2021. The February release date seemed prime for a rom-com like MARRY ME because it could've taken advantage of the lucrative Valentine's Day weekend but it's still up in the air whether or not moviegoing will even be back to normal by February 2021. It looks like the studio decided to play it safe and shift the film down the release slate because they obviously believe they have a film that could possibly perform well if given the chance. According to "Deadline", it is one of Lopez and Wilson’s highest tested features in preview screenings.
In the film, Lopez portrays a music superstar who marries a complete stranger (Owen Wilson) during one of her concerts after finding out her partner (played by Latin musician Maluma) is cheating on her. The movie also stars Sarah Silverman, Jameela Jamil, and Jimmy Fallon. The movie is based on a graphic novel of the same name by Bobby Crosby and helming the picture is Kat Coiro, who recently scored a solid gig directing episodes of the upcoming Marvel Disney+ series, She-Hulk.
Jennifer Lopez also took to her Facebook page and shared two new images of the film as she announced the release date change to her fans. The caption read "#ChangeTheDate! You're invited to Marry Me on May 14, 2021! #MarryMeMovie #NuyoricanProductions #OwenWilson." You can check out the two new images from the film below!
Was it a smart decision to move MARRY ME on the schedule?
