Marlon Wayans says White Chicks 2 is “needed” amid cancel culture

We’re one week away from Halloween, which means we’re diving into some of the scariest movies ever made. Hence, White Chicks–you know, the movie where Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans play FBI agents who go undercover as, well, white chicks. And yes, the makeup was a horrifying sight to behold.

In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Marlon Wayans was asked if a movie like White Chicks would be received well in 2022–not by critics (it holds a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes), but in the climate of political correctness. Wayans took the chance to lay into cancel culture, saying movies like White Chicks “are needed” more than ever.

“I don’t know what planet we’re on, where you think people don’t need laughter, and that people need to be censored and canceled,” said Wayans. “If a joke is gonna get me canceled, thank you for doing me that favor. It’s sad that society is in this place where we can’t laugh anymore. I ain’t listening to this damn generation.”

Marlon Wayans also said he has no time for naysayers of that sort. “I ain’t listening to these folks: These scared-ass people, these scared executives. Y’all do what you want to do? Great. I’m still gonna tell my jokes the way I tell them.”

This is not the first time Marlon Wayans has made statements on political correctness as it relates to more White Chicks. His recent quote echoes statements from last year, when he said, “I think we’ve tightened up so much that we need to loosen our ties a bit and laugh a little bit…The world just keeps giving us more [ideas ideas for White Chicks 2]. White Chicks 2 is writing itself.” God, he hope not.

Marlon Wayans most recently appeared in Netflix’s original kid-friendly comedy-horror The Curse of Bridge Hollow.

What do you think about Marlon Wayans’ comments? Could a movie like White Chicks be made in 2022?
