A big-screen adaptation of the Uncharted video-game franchise has been in various stages of development for over a decade at this point, with a number of directors coming and going, including David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, and Dan Trachtenberg, but the project finally seems to be moving forward under the direction of Travis Knight (BUMBLEBEE). Tom Holland is still attached to play Nathan Drake, the treasure hunter who journeys far and wide in order to uncover various historical mysteries, and the latest piece of casting news brings the project full circle.

Variety has reported that Mark Wahlberg is currently in final talks to join the cast of UNCHARTED. If you remember, Wahlberg was originally set to play Nathan Drake when David O. Russell was attached to direct nearly a decade ago. This time around, Wahlberg will play Victor "Sully" Sullivan, "an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker and businessman, as well as a friend, mentor and father figure to Drake." Production on UNCHARTED is expected to kick off next year with a script from Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, but given how many times this project has stalled, I'll believe it when I see it.

In addition to UNCHARTED, Mark Wahlberg has more than a few projects on his slate. The actor is currently filming Antoine Fuqua's past-lives thriller INFINITE, and will soon be seen in Peter Berg's Netflix thriller WONDERLAND, the A24 drama GOOD JOE BELL, as well as lending his voice to SCOOB!, Warner Bros.' new animated Scooby-Doo film.
