Over the past decade and some change, we've seen some of the most epic battles between opposing comic book characters take place on the big screen. Here's the thing about iconic beat-downs though, there can always be more. Nay, there must be more. I have spoken.
Recently while attending Tokyo Comic Con, Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo recalled a meeting he'd had with Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige about the Surly Green Giant's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Kevin Feige just asked me last week if I had any more ideas or stories for the Hulk,” Ruffalo shared with attendees of the con. “And I said yeah, I think there’s still some stories to tell. And he said, ‘Well why don’t you come in and tell me about them and we’ll see if we can find a place for you in the Marvel universe?’”
After wading into the weeds a bit, Ruffalo made mention of Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox, and how that merger would grant Hulk access to one of his greatest foes, Wolverine. "I'd like to see that. Hulk versus Wolverine," Ruffalo said to Feige during their meeting.
As a member of the X-Men as well as a former Avenger, there are more than a few ways in which Wolverine could cross paths with Banner's building-bashing behemoth on the big screen. Granted, Marvel's mutant populace would first have to be inducted into the MCU, but it's to be understood that plans for a monumental merge of mysthic proportions are already underway.
Previously, Feige has expressed a great amount of excitement with regard to acquiring characters belonging to Marvel's X-Men as well as the Fantastic Four.
"I'm extremely excited about those characters and about bringing Marvel's First Family up to the platform and the level that they deserve," Feige said, likely while rubbing his hands together and licking his lips in anticipation of what's to come. “The truth is, I’m excited for all of them. I’m excited, and it’s not just the marquee names you know — there are hundreds of names on those documents, on those agreements. And the fact that Marvel is as close as we may ever get now to having access to all of the characters, is something I’ve been dreaming about for my almost 20 years at Marvel. And it’s very exciting.”
