One of the most famous serial killers in U.S. history is creeping closer to the bigscreen as Variety is reporting that NEVER LET ME GO and ONE HOUR PHOTO director Mark Romanek is in talks to direct BOSTON STRANGLER for Warner Bros. with Casey Affleck set to star in the crime drama.
Affleck will also exec produce with Kevin McCormick producing through his Langley Park banner. Chuck MacLean wrote the script after originally pitching the project.
Based on the true story of serial killer Albert DeSalvo, which was made into a 1968 film starring Tony Curtis and Henry Fonda, the drama will follow a detective trying to solve the case of a notorious serial killer in Boston during the early 1960s.
Sources say the original pitch had similarities to SEVEN and ZODIAC that could fit Romanek’s knack for material with a dark tone.
More on BOSTON STRANGLER as we hear it.
