Mark Neveldine’s The Vatican Tapes off to fast start with sales; July start date announced

Back in February we shared the news that the long-gestating found footage horror film THE VATICAN TAPES had solidified a director with the announcement that CRANK helmer Mark Neveldine had come onboard to direct, and today we have some news regarding pre-sales and the beginning of principal photography for the horror thriller.

Screen Daily is reporting that Lakeshore Entertainment and Sierra/Affinity have sold key territories on Mark Neveldine’s horror thriller and Lionsgate has come on to distribute in the US in autumn 2014. Rights have closed in Canada (eOne), Australia (eOne/Hopscotch), Germany (Universum), the Middle East (Jaguar Film International Distribution), Thailand (IPA Asia Pacific), Turkey (D Productions) and Latin America (Sun Distribution).

Lakeshore has also set a July start of production in Los Angeles. No casting has been announced as of yet, but we expect to hear some news on that front soon.

THE VATICAN TAPES follows the haunting tale of 27 year-old Angela Holmes, who accidentally cuts her finger and ends up in the emergency room.  Infection leads to erratic behavior, and she begins to have a devastating effect on anyone close, causing serious injury and death.  Priests examine Holmes and believe she is possessed, but when the Vatican is called upon to exorcise the demon, the possession proves to be an ancient satanic force more powerful than they imagined.

THE VATICAN TAPES marks Lakeshore’s third partnership with Neveldine after he penned the screenplays for Jason Statham starrers CRANK and CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE as well as GAMER.  Neveldine’s other films include the Nicholas Cage GHOST RIDER sequel, SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE.
