Mark Millar, the consultant to Fox on their Marvel properties, is feeling good about X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. He recently shared some vague details about the project to SFX and they sound like we may finally be getting the X-MEN movie we have all been waiting for.
According to Millar, “Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. It’s X-MEN meets THE TERMINATOR…You’ve got robots, you’ve got time travel, you’ve got superheroes – it’s got everything in one film.”
Wait, did he say robots? That, to me and every comic loving person on the planet, means Sentinels! As everyone knows, the “Days of Future Past” story follows a dystopian alternative future in which mutants are incarcerated in internment camps. An older Kitty Pryde transfers her mind into the younger, present-day Kitty Pryde, who brings the X-Men to prevent a fatal moment in history which triggers anti-mutant hysteria.
While I am usually weary of sequels being bigger and more expensive than their predecessors, in the case of this new X-MEN franchise, I am on board. Matthew Vaughn is a damn fine director and I loved the hell out of X-MEN; FIRST CLASS. Millar seems to be saying all of the right things as well.
“Cost-wise it’s going to go up, and ambitious-wise it’s gone up,” Millar said. “But Vaughn can handle it. Vaughn made Kick-Ass for $28 million.”
What do you think of these latest comments? Are you excited for possible Sentinel action?
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is slated to open on July 18, 2014.
