Mark Hamill reveals his thoughts on a Luke/Han reunion in The Force Awakens

Yar, here be spoilers for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Unless you've been living on Ahch-To, you're likely aware that the first trailer for STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI dropped this morning and have already watched it a dozen times. It may have only been the first teaser, but it featured more of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) than we got in the entirety of THE FORCE AWAKENS, which isn't all that impressive, but it's still fun to finally hear the Jedi Master speak.

Mark Hamill will obviously have much more to do in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, but his main regret from his limited screen-time in THE FORCE AWAKENS was that he didn't get a reunion scene with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) before the character's death at the hands of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Hamill spoke with Fandango's Erik Davis at Star Wars Celebration to reveal his disappointment at that lack of a reunion as well as to offer up his version of how he wished it had gone down.

In fact when I was reading it I thought, if Leia is trying to mentally contact me and she's not successful, she'll rush to his aid. She'll get close to him and then get into some dire situation and that's when I show up for a big 'yay'. Save her life, then we rush to Han and are in the same position that Rey and Finn and Chewie are in. Too late to save him, but witnesses. Because it would carry so much emotional resonance into the next film. For us: his wife, his best friend to witness, instead of two characters that have known him, what, 20 minutes? Well, Chewie. But still, I thought that was a great missed opportunity.

After all that Luke Skywalker and Han Solo have experienced together, it's certainly a shame that we won't get to see the pair share the screen together one more time. I'm curious to see how the death of Han Solo will be dealt with in THE LAST JEDI, as well as Luke's reaction to it, but I've got to hope that we'll at least get to see Luke and Leia reunite.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is set for a December 15, 2017 release.
