Two of the best found footage movies of the past few years have been the one-two punch of director Patrick Brice and star Mark Duplass' CREEP and CREEP 2. And if you were a fan of the first two films too, then I'm sure you're wondering what's going on with CREEP 3? Well, today Duplass let us all know that the third film has been written twice and they are currently "struggling" with it. But it's still in the works!
He says:
We’ve written it twice, and neither of those stories are good enough, and the reason is we almost didn’t make a Creep 2. We got lucky making ‘Creep,’ as cogent as it is considering how we made it, and I didn’t want to disappoint people and I didn’t want to put out a stupid sequel. We decided to make ‘Creep 2.’ We had to almost kill ourselves to make that movie as good as it was. I appreciate how many people liked it but I do feel like it wasn’t as good as it could have been if I’m being perfectly honest. If we’re going to make a third one, it’d better be super inspired. We are trying and we are putting effort into it, but we are not good enough yet to make it worthwhile, so we are struggling. That’s really it.
All good, Duplass. Take your time, I say! What did you think of CREEP and CREEP 2? Let us know below!
For those that might not know, the first movie centered on a young videographer who answers an online ad for a one-day job in a remote town to record the last messages of a dying man. When he notices the man's odd behavior, he starts to question his intentions. The follow up then centered on a video artist (played by Desiree Akhavan) looking for work who drives to a remote house in the forest to meet Duplass' character who claims to be a serial killer. But after agreeing to spend the day with him, she soon realizes that she made a deadly mistake.
Brice directed both CREEP and CREEP 2 from stories he came up with along with Duplass. Blumhouse helped distribute the movies and so it makes sense that if there is, in fact, a CREEP 3 on the horizon, Blumhouse will have a hand in it as well. I guess we'll find out sooner rather than later.
