The new Robert Zemeckis movie, ALLIED, looks like a pretty fun time at the movies, plain and simple. I don’t think it will be the Oscar contender some believe it will be, but the WWII espionage/romance thriller has an engaging enough story to sustain an enjoyable cinematic outing, especially with folks like Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard on the bill. I have more faith the movie will live up to my expectations now that two clips for the flick have come out that are filled with guns, intrigue and chair kicking.
In the first clip we are treated to some fine gun skills from Cotillard, before some seriously serious conversations begin between her and Pitt.
Next we see Pitt in a room with very intense chaps, who inform Pitt on some most grievous news, letting him know just how high the stakes are.
I’m excited for this movie simply because it looks so solid. Pitt and Cotillard will no doubt be on form, and there promises to be plenty of sleuthing and shooting action. Zemeckis is a reliable director who always manages to deliver entertaining films no matter the subject, and you can't go wrong with a script from Steven Knight. There will be a lot to compete with this month, from FANTASTIC BEASTS to MOANA, but ALLIED should stand out as a real Thanksgiving treat. Get it? Because it comes out the same week as Thanksgiving.
ALLIED with Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard, Jared Harris, Lizzy Caplan and Matthew Goode is out on November 23.
