Although SUICIDE SQUAD sadly didn't turn out to be the savior of the DC Extended Universe, the flick certainly has its fans ($745 million globally definitely isn't anything to sneeze at) and Warner Bros. seems keen to give us more of the worst heroes ever. Along with a SUICIDE SQUAD sequel and a Deadshot spin-off, Warner Bros. has also been developing GOTHAM CITY SIRENS which will see Margot Robbie reprising her role of the Joker's puddin', Harley Quinn.
Out of all of the SUICIDE SQUAD projects, GOTHAM CITY SIRENS is the furthest along in development and THR has reported that David Ayer will be returning to direct and produce the new feature. Taking its name from the DC Comics series penned by Paul Dini, GOTHAM CITY SIRENS will showcase the "top female villains from the DC stable" including Catwoman and Poison Ivy. Geneva Robertson-Dworet (SHERLOCK HOLMES 3, TOMB RAIDER) is currently onboard to write the screenplay and Warner Bros. is said to be putting this project on the fast-track. David Ayer is nearing the end of principal photography on BRIGHT, his fantasy thriller which stars Will Smith as a human cop and Joel Edgerton as his newly assigned Orc partner, but I'd imagine that GOTHAM CITY SIRENS would be his next project. Let us know what you think of this news in the comments, and make sure to tell us who you'd like to see play Poison Ivy and Catwoman!
SUICIDE SQUAD was released on Blu-ray/DVD just today, so make sure to pick your copy up and relive the madness!
