The HBO limited series Mare of Easttown has gained steady momentum across its seven episodes and the numbers for its finale over the holiday weekend scored big for HBO and HBO Max.
The Kate Winslet-led limited series pulled in four million viewers across HBO and HBO Max for its finale. Nearly three million viewers tuned in on Sunday night (across all platforms) which marked a series high for both linear and digital. The finale also holds the distinction of being the most-watched episode of an Original Series on HBO Max in its first 24 hours of availability.
HBO saw similar success with Nicole Kidman's The Undoing, which also proved to be a hit across all platforms. Mare of Easttown joins that series by being the only show in HBO's history to see consecutive growth week-to-week. The show clearly became a water-cooler hit of sorts as more viewers discovered it week after week and proved once again that HBO is one of the best at putting out a limited series with a particularly high pedigree.
Mare of Easttown, created by Brad Ingelsby and directed by Craig Zobel, followed a detective in a small Pennsylvania town investigating a local murder while trying to keep her life from falling apart. In addition to Winslet, the series also stars Julianna Nicholson, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice, Evan Peters, Guy Pearce, David Denman, Joe Tippett, Cailee Spaeny, John Douglas Thompson, Patrick Murney, James McArdle, Sosie Bacon, and Neal Huff.
