At the end of last month, I was very glad to hear that Frank Grillo (Boss Level) will be starring in the horror thriller Man’s Son for director Remy Grillo… who happens to be the actor’s son. I’m a big fan of Frank Grillo and look forward to seeing him in this horror movie. Now my interest in Man’s Son has been boosted even further, as it has been revealed that Grillo is being joined in the cast by genre regular Jaime King, who is also a producer on the project. King confirmed her involvement on Instagram.
Man’s Son marks Remy Grillo’s feature directorial debut. Scripted by Josh Plasse and Brev Moss, Man’s Son was, according to Deadline, “inspired by Occult activity in the California desert”. The story centers on
a young couple hoping to create an aesthetically pleasing audition tape for an up-and-coming Charles Manson film. But when the couple chooses an eclectic desert Airbnb as the perfect backdrop, the dark events of the audition material slowly slip into their reality. Eventually, they find themselves intertwined in the sinister plot of an occult leader.
Frank Grillo will be playing that cult leader (occult leader?) with the sinister plot. As King noted, Josh Plasse (There’s No Such Thing as Vampires), Will Peltz (Unfriended), and newcomer Kathryn Hughes are also in the cast.
Coming to us from Hooligan Dreamers Productions, Dare Angel, Margate House Films, and Mi Nene, Man’s Son is being produced by Plasse, Shakira Barrera, Conor Allyn, Johnny James Fiore, Benjamin Anderson, Jake Allyn, Fabio Lo Fria, Jaime King, and Emma Comley. Bobby McMichael, Nida Kahl, Chido Nwokocha, and Dennis Echelberger serve as executive producers.
XYZ Films picked up the North American distribution rights to the film earlier this month, with the plan being to release it later this year or sometime in early 2023.
King’s previous credits include My Bloody Valentine 3D, Silent Night (2012), Mother’s Day (2010), Sin City, and Black Summer.
