Manifest is proving that Netflix was right to bring the series back for a super-sized final season on their platform. The former canceled NBC series, which saw a surge of popularity on Netflix as the network decided to end its run, has returned to the top of Nielsen’s weekly U.S. streaming chart.
The 42 available episodes of Manifest across three seasons pulled in almost 1.4 billion minutes of total viewing from August 23 to 29. This marks the sixth weekly win for the show, and the seventh time it has topped 1 billion minutes in a single week. The surge for Manifest on the chart is the result of season 3 being released on Netflix on August 21 and Netflix resurrecting the show on August 28.
According to “Deadline”, Nielsen measures only streaming of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+ programming, and only via a TV screen in the U.S., which leaves out mobile and overseas viewing. Numbers are delivered after a nearly month-long delay, by arrangement with the streaming providers.
The final season of Manifest will consist of 20-episodes that will be split into two parts. Series creator Jeff Rake previously stated that all the details are still being worked out but the final season is likely to debut in late 2022. The decision to bring back Manifest will prove to be a solid move for Netflix as the series is already performing strongly on the platform. 25 million accounts in the U.S. and Canada watched the show in its first 28 days on the service. The series also relentlessly stayed in the platform’s Top 10 for 71 days since its debut and was number one for 19 of those days. The show’s completion rate, something Netflix is usually guarded about, was very strong and meant well for its worldwide expansion.
Manifest focuses on Montego Air Flight 828, which landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight. The crew and passengers are relieved to be safe but in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years and their friends, families, and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds, and some of the returned passengers soon realize they might be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. The series stars Josh Dallas, Jack Messina, Athena Karkanis, Melissa Roxburgh, JR Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Parveen Kaur, and Matt Long.
