You did it Manifest fans! The missing plane series that was canceled by NBC, will live on for one final 20-episode season on Netflix. The news comes after weeks of complicated negotiations to make it happen but the news was made official this morning and now fans of the show will get the proper closure they desired before the series was abruptly canceled.
Appropriately, the news of the series’ resurrection happened on the so-called “828 Day” (8/28)which is when the series about the mystery Flight 828 is celebrated annually. Even more awesome for all you Manifest nerds out there, the news even broke at 8:28 AM PT.
The final season of Manifest will consist of 20-episodes that will be split into two parts. Negotiations began with the cast some time ago as well as with writers who worked with the show over the first three seasons of the show. Series lead stars, Josh Dallas and Melissa Roxburgh have already closed their deals for the final season while J.R. Ramirez is believed to have closed his deal as well. The remaining series regulars: Luna Blaise, Matt Long, and Matt Long are also said to be on board but the latter is also a series regular on the NBC drama pilot Getaway but it’s believed that the schedule will work out for him to make a return to Manifest as well.
Warner Bros. TV is not confirming this but “Deadline” is reporting that the returning cast members are also getting sizable pay increases to come back for the final season. One could argue that their deals for a Netflix return are even better than they would be if they were to come back for a normal season on NBC. This is exceptionally good news for all involved. Creator Jeff Rake had this to say about the series getting a final chance on Netflix:
“What started years ago as a flight of fancy deep in my imagination has evolved into the jet engine journey of a lifetime. Never in my wildest dreams could I have envisioned the worldwide outpouring of love and support for this story, its characters, and the team who work so hard to bring it all to life. That we will be able to reward the fans with the ending they deserve moves me to no end. On behalf of the cast, the crew, the writers, directors, and producers, thank you to Netflix, to Warner Bros., and of course to the fans. You did this.”
Manifest focuses on Montego Air Flight 828, which landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight. The crew and passengers are relieved to be safe but in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years and their friends, families, and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds, and some of the returned passengers soon realize they might be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. The series stars Josh Dallas, Jack Messina, Athena Karkanis, Melissa Roxburgh, JR Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Parveen Kaur, and Matt Long.
