Manifest: Netflix may save the cancelled series after all

Manifest, Netflix, cancelled

NBC cancelled supernatural drama Manifest after three seasons just last month, and the move prompted an immediate outcry from the show's passionate fans. In this day and age, a cancellation isn't always a death sentence, and there was hope that Manifest might get picked up by another network or streaming service, but those hopes received a major blow when Netflix officially passed on saving the series.

Fans were left disappointed once again and Manifest creator Jeff Rake later expressed his desire to wrap up the series with a two-hour movie, but Deadline has now reported that Netflix could be back in the picture. The outlet reports that both NBC and Netflix have been in talks with Warner Bros. TV about bringing a fourth season of the series to Netflix, and it seems that the strong viewership of the series on Netflix as well as the #SaveManifest campaign have a lot to do with it. Jeff Rake hasn't directly responded to the news, but he did take to Twitter to say, "Lots of speculation out there. No comment. Other than, if the impossible happens and the dead rise again, it’s because of YOU."

If, like myself, you've never actually watched Manifest, here's what the series is all about: When Montego Air Flight 828 landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight, the crew and passengers were relieved. But in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years – and their friends, families and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they're all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. Manifest had originally been envisioned for a six-season run, so there's obviously plenty of story left to tell. Although I'm not familiar with the series, I definitely know the sting of a favourite show cancelled before its time, so I've got my fingers crossed that Manifest will be brought back from the brink.
