Well, that was fast.
According to Deadline, the sequel to MAN OF STEEL is officially moving forward with director Zack Snyder once again at the helm and screenwriter David S. Goyer once again scripting. “Goyer’s deal is part of a huge 3-picture deal he signed at Warner Bros for Man Of Steel, the sequel, and Justice League with Superman,” says Deadline, which is consistent with rumors we’ve heard all along. Reportedly, Christopher Nolan’s role will be less “full blown” on this one, but even Cavill has pointed out that Nolan’s involvement has been minimal, saying:
“Chris Nolan wasn’t there during the production itself, although I’m not sure how much work was done behind the scenes. I’m sure Zack had a phone call or two with him, but this is definitely Zack’s baby. He was the man in charge, and we created the character together, as opposed to having too many outside influences.”
No details on start/release dates, but my guess is they’ll put this on the fast track after the numbers roll in this weekend. One thing this news confirms is that the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie is no longer the priority and it shows that perhaps Warner Bros. is taking it slow in developing their “phase” of films, rather than tossing them out there just to compete. Certainly, they could hire on another director to helm JUSTICE LEAGUE, but with this dynamic going, I’m willing to put all my chips on Snyder and Goyer taking the reins on it as soon as MAN OF STEEL 2 is complete. Any takers on that bet?
MAN OF STEEL hits theaters this week and is trending as THE movie to see this summer. I expect big numbers that will likely eclipse what’s being tracked, but we’ll know soon enough.
MAN OF STEEL opens this Friday, June 14, 2013.
